Stop climate change denying fossil fuel industry ally Scott Pruitt from leading the E.P.A.
The Issue
Trump Picks Scott Pruitt, Climate Change Denialist, to Lead E.P.A.
Dear President-elect Trump and members of the U.S. Congress and Senate, regardless of who funded your election campaigns I remind you that you have been entrusted to represent the interests of not only those who voted for you and/or reside in your electoral districts but all Americans. I would also like to remind U.S. Citizens along with citizens around the world that when the actions of our government officials don't represent us we have a civic duty, and in the case of climate change a moral duty, to make our objections and viewpoints known.
According to a March 2016 Gallup poll 64% of Americans are worried either a “great deal” or a “fair amount” about climate change. Moreover 65% of Americans believe that human activity (e.g. burning fossil fuels, cutting down forests, and raising livestock) is to blame for increases in the Earth’s temperature over the last century. This shows that a strong majority of Americans, nearly two-thirds, acknowledge the scientific consensus on climate change, i.e., they acknowledge that the planet is heating up and that the primarily cause is human activity.
Therefore we, the signers of this petition, strongly urge President-elect Trump to revoke his nomination of climate change denying fossil fuel industry ally Scott Pruitt to lead the Environmental Protection Agency and replace him with someone who holds views on climate change that are more inline with those of over 9 out of 10 climate scientists and nearly 2 out of 3 of the Americans he has been entrusted to represent which includes the majority of U.S. voters that did not vote for him and highlight the need for a National Popular Vote and Fair Vote.
If the President-elect does not revoke this severely misguided nomination we strongly urge the U.S. Senate to reject it when it comes up for Senate confirmation. Furthermore we the signers of this petition sincerely urge U.S. Citizens and along with all other Global Citizens to join the push for climate action which starts by doing what we can as individuals to reduce our own carbon/ecological footprints. Therefore in addition to a petition this document will also act as a pledge. If you support the petition above and pledge below please sign and share because every signature symbolizes a step in the right direction. Thanks!
In order to help safeguard the biosphere and our future as a species within it and eventually beyond it we, the signers of this petition, pledge to do our best in meeting the following three pledges:
1.) We will strive to reduce our fossil fuel powered travel, particularly flying and driving alone, and when walking and biking is impractical we will try to carpool, go by bus, or make use of other forms of public transportation.
2.) We will strive to eat a plant based diet and to eat as locally and organically as practically possible and set a positive example for others as we do by planning ahead and not putting ourselves in situations where we’re forced to compromise.
3.) We will strive to not waste food, water, electricity, or any other precious resources; and we will try not to use disposable drinking straws, beverage bottles, dining utensils, food boxes, and shopping bags and try to recycle those we do use.
