Appoint Commander John B Wells, USN (Retired), as Secretary of Veterans Affairs
The Issue
WE THE PEOPLE and the undersigned ask you to appoint Commander John B Wells, USN (Retired), as Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Commander Wells served for twenty-two years in the Navy.
He understands the pressures of military service and the needs of our nation’s veterans.
Since he retired, Commander Wells has become a practicing attorney with emphasis on military and veterans’ law. He understands the intricacies and failings of the Veterans Benefits Administration and VA law.
He has taken many cases through the morass of the VA legal system in an attempt to secure benefits for veterans. Through these efforts he has gained a thorough knowledge of the bureaucratic roadblocks inculcated into the VA system. For the past six years, Commander Wells has advocated before Congress, without pay, for veterans benefits legislation.
He has good relations with Members of Congress and Senators of both parties and has attained a reputation on Capitol Hill as an aggressive and professional advocate. He has worked closely with the majority and minority Veterans Affairs Committees for both the House and Senate and has been the "go to" person on several issues.
Commander Wells could hit the ground running as VA Secretary, His efforts would be felt almost immediately. He is the man to make the VA great again.
