Hands off Calico access, BLM! Keep it free and 24/7.

Hands off Calico access, BLM! Keep it free and 24/7.
The Issue
We, frequent visitors to the Calico Basin area of the Red Rock Cyn NCA, hereby petition President Biden, Interior Secretary Haaland, Director Stone-Manning, State Director Raby, District Manager Bullets, Field Manager Williams and Assistant Manager Travers, as well as our elected representatives Cortez Masto, Rosen, Titus, Lee and Horsford with the following grievance:
Hands off Calico access, BLM! Keep it free and 24/7.
Calico provides for each of us different opportunities. The BLM doesn't own the place, we, the American people, do. We are hikers, scramblers, climbers, mountain bikers, equestrians, photographers and many more. While we all see certain issues accompanying the increase in visitation (in large part a result of BLM's own flawed decision to demand reservations in the scenic loop, imposed without any public participation), we see the BLM's draft for the management of Calico, discussed at the public meeting yesterday as an epic failure.
This draft completely disregards our concerns voiced in the March public meeting and we object to two key components of the draft:
1) it will start charging fees for access to Calico and
2) it will prohibit access past arbitrarily set times of the day, at times as early as 5 p.m.
During yesterdays meeting, only about 30 people got their 2-minute comment window, none of them voicing support for these elements of the BLM draft, almost all of them vehemently opposing it.
None of us can afford the houses in Calico, which the draft plan would make a government guarded gated community with unfettered access to Calico, funded by our fees and tax dollars. The rest of us will have to start paying for access to OUR public lands, not only to the government, but also to a greedy defense contractor. Our access would be limited to a few hours per day.
We call on the aforementioned government officials and our elected representatives to stop this plan and start taking us into consideration.
