Mr President We the undersigned implore you to reconsider your decision to open the Atlantic coast to oil exploration and the subsequent drilling that will almost surely follow. Sir, we all know the jobs numbers are grossly overstated and America simply does not need the few thousand jobs that may be generated, compared to the tens of thousands that will be lost to the eventual and inevitable spill. 

I say inevitable Mr President because the location is also known as "hurricane alley". Considering as many as dozen major storms a year have moved directly over the area in question it's simply a matter of when not if. And we certainly don't need the oil, or more specifically, its toxic byproducts. You saw the sheer power of one of these storms touring the aftermath of Sandy. Imagine that along with a few hundred floating oil platforms aground, sinking, or just heavily damaged & leaking. Just the petrochemical products stored in the rigs would represent a number of small spills that will most likely foul large sections of shore.

The only benefit in our eyes is for the oil companies and their share holders. This is a bad idea! No matter how much money you frame it with, putting oil rigs, fixed or floating, in one of the most active hurricane zones on the planet, is irresponsible, reprehensible, and simply unacceptable. We refuse to support anyone who supports any proposed drilling off the East coast. We've seen the Gulf Coast. Thanks, but we like our beaches just the way they are, OIL FREE!!!
