National Monument in the George Washington National Forest

The Issue

Whereas the George Washington National Forest contains many rare, endemic and endangered species, and whereas it is an important area for recreation a short drive from many populated areas in Virginia, and whereas it is potentially at risk from logging, pipelines, and mining operations, and whereas Virginia has a growing need for more wilderness...   I propose that President Barack Obama use his Presidential authority under consultation with the Virginia's Department of Conservation and Recreation to designate a significant section of the George Washington National Forest as a National Monument.
