Despite promises from Shell Oil and Federal Agencies that deep-sea drilling in the Arctic can be safely managed, this is profoundly untrue. In 2011 alone in the Niger Delta of Nigeria, Shell reported 63 “operational spills” due to equipment failure. That happened in a tropical environment (Truthout, Fri. 8/3). No one on EARTH has the technology or the know-how to begin a cleanup of the inevitable "operational spills" in THE ARCTIC which will accompany offshore drilling for oil there. We move one step closer to "killing our oceans" and irreversibly altering the fragile range of conditions on our EARTH which support OUR OWN LIVES.
