Preserving The Brookfield Concept - Stopping Large Development

Preserving The Brookfield Concept - Stopping Large Development
The Issue
We, the undersigned, vehemently oppose the five-story, mixed-used development that is to be located on the SE corner of Capitol Drive and Lilly Road in Brookfield, WI.
We believe that the City of Brookfield Planning Commission and Common Council should not only limit the use of this property to commercial-only, but should also limit the proposal to a maximum of two-stories. In doing so, this preserves the character, scale, and proportion of the property to better align with Capitol Drive and our neighborhood, while also remaining committed to orderly development and maintaining a high quality of life - something that the City of Brookfield prides themselves on.
Should the City of Brookfield Planning Commission and Common Council approve the proposed development, it will have an immediate, negative impact on homes within the area. A five-story building not only looks out of place given no other businesses on Capitol Drive are at this scale, but a building this size impacts the privacy, noise, quality of life of those surrounding it. Additionally, the intersection of Capitol Drive and Lilly Road has an extremely high volume of traffic which is worsened at peak times. By adding residential apartments and town homes, this intersection will have surpassed its capacity limits leading to increased accidents and travel on side streets. This project would detract from the suburban character of Brookfield, which is one that many people seek out when looking to purchase a home within our neighborhood, and increase noise and light pollution of an already busy road.
We hope that the City of Brookfield Planning Commission and Common Council will agree with our petition to modify the existing plans for this development and help preserve this side of Brookfield and ensure their citizens are continue to live a high-quality of life within the city.
