Preserving Dodge Park Day for UAIS Sophomores
Preserving Dodge Park Day for UAIS Sophomores
The Issue
Since as long as many of us UAIS freshmen and sophomores can remember, we have all looked forward to a specific AMES day, that being Dodge Park Day. It is a day to build community, learn, and have fun. However, there’s been some recent speculation that us sophomores will not be able to participate. We want to oppose this.
That being said, this is all in good faith. We hold the utmost respect towards all of the staff, and anyone who signs this petition agrees that this is not in any way made to slander the wonderful teachers and other staff members who work tirelessly to provide us with an exceptional education. This is simply a peaceful and fun way to show that this is something we care about deeply.
Dodge Park Day is a UAIS tradition and a staple in our school’s culture. The underclassmen walk to the park to do various fun activities, and upperclassmen spend the day doing EE and CAS stuff (Or so I’ve heard). Since sophomores cannot do that, we believe it would benefit us greatly to be able to walk to the park and enjoy the sun like the previous sophomores could. Many studies have concluded that taking walks, spending time outside with plants, and seeing the sun can improve happiness and reduce stress. The school day is long, and many of us have extracurriculars or generally busy schedules, so the idea of being able to have a whole day dedicated to us hanging out outside and being able to mentally recharge sounds wonderful.
If you agree with this sentiment—sophomore or otherwise—please support by signing this petition. Thank you. :)
