Thank You for Standing Up for Your Rights

I want to thank everyone for taking such an active and vocal role in preserving your property rights. I am proud that we had so many people come downtown and voice their opinion. It should not come as a surprise that the Cultural Historic Commission, whose entire function is to “preserve architecture”, forwarded the proposed HPOZ to the next level. Though this vote may not have been what we wished for, our spirit was definitely known to the Commissioners and has the ability to pave the way for our mission going forward. I took great pride in hearing the commissioner state “this has been the most contentious HPOZ hearing ever heard”. This is because each one of you spoke with heartfelt passion on such a sensitive issue. On October 13, 2016, there will be a Planning Meeting and ultimately the Council Member vote down the road prior to the proposed plan being adopted. The representative from Council Member, David Ryu agreed to meet with us. This is a fight worth fighting and one which, in order to succeed, would have to involve a large representation of our population in the community. We must be smart. We must be strategic. Look what we have accomplished coming together in only two weeks. We need two-way communication with one another. I think the most effective way to join forces is through a Facebook group I started titled “Say No HPOZ” The group is a closed group which means you would request to become a member of the group. Then, I would authorize that request. After you are a member of the group, you could invite friends to join the group via Facebook.
