Preserve Virginia Beach Middle School DLI Program as is

Preserve Virginia Beach Middle School DLI Program as is
The Issue
Our children in Virginia Beach, VA are truly thriving in the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program at both the Elementary and Middle School levels. The program has been instrumental in their educational journey, offering a unique environment where they can develop invaluable language skills while enhancing their academic success. Removing or altering this program would negatively impact their educational paths in multiple ways, disrupting their current learning environment and future opportunities.
The DLI Programs have profound benefits that extend beyond language acquisition. Studies show that students engaged in such programs experience significant cognitive benefits, including improved memory, attention span, and problem-solving skills. These cognitive enhancements directly contribute to better academic performance across all subjects. Additionally, participation in a dual language program prepares students for a globalized world, giving them an edge in college admissions and future career prospects.
The options presented to the Virginia Beach School Board, either option one or option two, could result in the relocation or cancellation of the DLI program. This move is problematic as it would extend bus routes, making daily commutes longer and more burdensome for students and families. Instead of a community-centered neighborhood program, children would face increased travel times, diminishing their ability to participate fully in after-school activities and community engagement. It is crucial to maintain the program in its current location to ensure that it remains accessible and integrated within our community.
We urge the Virginia Beach School Board to consider the overwhelming benefits and to preserve the DLI program as it is. By doing so, we ensure a promising future for our children, equipping them with essential skills to succeed academically and in life.
Connect with us in this cause, and together, let's advocate for the best educational opportunities for our children, right here in Virginia Beach. Sign this petition to secure their future.
