Preserve the Vital Tilbury/Gravesend Ferry Service

Preserve the Vital Tilbury/Gravesend Ferry Service
The Issue
Kent County Council (KCC) are consulting on whether to remove the subsidy for the Gravesend Ferry when the contract ends in March of this year. If this does happen the likelihood is the service will be discontinued.
The Tilbury/Gravesend Ferry is more than just a mode of transportation for us in Gravesend and North Kent. It's a lifeline, connecting communities, ferrying school children to Gravesend Grammar School, and providing a crucial route for many to travel to and from work. Despite the high KCC tax rates we bear, it is alarming that this essential service is at risk of being discontinued.
The ferry service has been an integral part of our community for years. Its discontinuation would not only disrupt our daily lives but also sever an important link between communities on either side of the River Thames. This isn't just about convenience; it's about maintaining connections that have been built over generations.
We understand the need for budgetary considerations but believe there must be other ways to address these without cutting off such vital services. We urge those in power to reconsider this decision and explore alternative solutions that do not involve scrapping the Tilbury/Gravesend Ferry Service.
