Governors Island (GI) parks and historic areas have been providing a one-of-a-kind open space experience for visitors - thanks mostly to thoughtful development and management so far.

We demand that The Trust For Governors Island and Mayor DeBlasio withdraw the current Trust for Governors Island South Island Redevelopment Plan:

- Don't rezone 33 acres in the uniquely open South Island area of GI for high-rise, high-density development.

- Achieve financial self-sufficiency for GI by developing in the North Island’s existing buildings and continuing efforts to find non-development related income sources.

- Any future South Island development should preserve GI's one-of-a-kind feel of open space - defined not just by surface, but sky (think air rights) and non-private areas. We support more public amenities such as for athletic activities, waterfront access, urban farming/education, "wild" less-formal spaces.

We need to protect our green spaces; we need to protect Governors Island specifically the South Island area. New Yorkers can force City Planning to go back to the drawing board if we all take action.

Please sign this petition to demand that The Trust For Governors Island and Mayor DeBlasio withdraw the current Trust for Governors Island South Island Redevelopment Plan.

And please contact all of your elected officials! It's as simple as saying "I live in ---- (neighborhood) and I use Governors Island. I do not support the current Trust for Governors Island Redevelopment Plan." (You can add whatever you want - ex: "I don't want a large office park/hotel/residential complex on Governors Island. I want to see the park land used for ----.")
