Another win! Let’s get even more signatures before the town hall

Yesterday, Thursday, October 15, 2026, the Community Board 12 Education and Youth (CB12 E&Y) committee meeting agenda included PSIS187 construction. Thank you to all those who joined the meeting and shared their concerns! Community Boards must be consulted on placement of most municipal facilities in the community. Building a new building will change the use of the schoolyard space and should have been discussed. However, the CB12 E&Y committee members confirmed that the CB12 board has no more information than we do about the process that led to the decision to build an “annex” to PSIS187, or about the details of the planned building.
They agreed with us that the Department of Education (DoE) and the Schools Construction Agency (SCA) have shown a concerning lack of transparency and decided to call for a town hall with representatives from the DoE and the SCA. They also invited the District 6 DoE superintendent, Mr. Ramirez, to present next month (November 12) at 6:30 pm. The meeting is open to the public and hybrid.
While we wait for a date for this town hall, we look forward to the PTO meeting on Thursday (October 22) at 6 pm in the school auditorium.
Also, the Light House published an article about our petition!
We are asking for TRANSPARENCY.
Don't be shy; ask your friends and neighbors if they know about the construction plans.
- If they say yes, ask whether they've heard about the petition.
- If they answer no, inform them!
A QR code at the bottom of the petition makes it easy to share in person.
Sending it personally via text or email also makes a big difference.
