The Mapleton Preserve is 52 acres of open space providing passive outdoor enjoyment for the Village of Kingston, South Brunswick Township and surrounding areas.
Save it from commercialism and development!
We need to persuade the Mayor and Township Council of South Brunswick to stop Old York Cellars (OYC) from building a massive Winery Complex, to include retail stores, food hall and restaurants, large events and festival space. Tens of thousands of visitors are anticipated annually, in a place once promised to be kept "quiet and secluded". The majority of open fields would be cultivated, destroying animal habitats and producing polluted run off from chemicals used in the vineyard. The traffic, waste, noise and light pollution from outdoor events and massive parking lots will disrupt neighboring homes and decimate wildlife. Kingston residents do not want a "social space" or "regional attraction with tour buses providing day trips for city dwellers" in our peaceful Historic Village!
This special place in our area was saved by the community once before. It was purchased with Green Acres Dollars because its "preservation would deter further development" and was celebrated as an "open space buffer", and a "green belt around Kingston".
Let's not forget what the community was promised!
With all the development in our area, the loss of habitats, and commercial businesses destroying what open space we have left, we need South Brunswick and the State of NJ to reject this proposal and respect what the Community fought to protect years ago!
