The Washington D.C. Metro rail system, a backbone of the city, is poised for a design overhaul. The envisioned modernization, however, thwarts the continuity of the original mid-1970s Design, which is dear to our community as it is a symbol of our heritage and city's identity. It is crucial we act now to prevent a change in the design that could erase our architectural history. The 7K Series and the upcoming 8k series don't have the design that makes the metro, the metro! The shape and color of the cars have been an icon since the Metro first opened. Sure we can have overhauled interiors and open gangways, but you cannot change the shape, color, or aesthetic of a DC metro train!
