When this petition began, I simply hoped that enough public support could be generated to alert Alder Hey Children’s Hospital to recognize the great body of work in their corridors by Art For Their Sake and thank their many volunteers. The notes coming in were touching. Most people wanted the existing murals to be saved. George Nicholas has said that it will not be possible to save the murals due to the way they have been constructed. However, Alder Hey is now in the process of making a full digital record of all the Alder Hey murals - including those produced by 'Art for Their Sake' and those commissioned directly from George. Once the move to the new hospital is complete, there will be further discussions as to how that record will be put to use. (George’s offer of free murals for the new hospital was not accepted.)
As many of you know, the old Alder Hey Children’s Hospital will be demolished as the move to the new hospital is completed. That move takes place the first week of October, 2015. Please continue to share this petition—let’s ask Alder Hey to display the digital record open to the public all the time.
Thanks for your continued support, and to new signers/supporters!

A photograph online of an unknown artist posing in front of a mural painting at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, England, caused me to pause. I recognized this mural as work of Impact Murals founder and Directing Manager George Nicholas, also founder and Directing Manager of the charity Art For Their Sake. I was appalled at the implication that this was the art work of someone else! Not only that, I could find no mention or public recognition of this massive collection of donated work by the professional team of Art For Their Sake on any Alder Hey web page. Nicholas and his team, which includes long-time volunteer Joey Doyle, started painting the corridors of Alder Hey in 1978 and spent 30+ years adding on and maintaining them.
Demolition of the old hospital is scheduled!!! These wonderful murals will be destroyed-- lost forever! Please sign to demand that Alder Hey correct this injustice, preserve the legacy of the murals and recognize the charity Art For Their Sake and its founder George Nicholas in the history of Alder Hey!
