Indigenous Australians, despite being rightful owners of this land, are repeatedly sidelined, their voices silenced and are projected as being inherently dangerous by prevalent stereotypes.  Despite such highlights, the discomforting realities remain. Indigenous youth are 24 times more likely to be detained than non-Indigenous young Australians (Human Rights Commission, 2016). Indigenous Australians also face societal injustices, with over 27% reported experiencing racial prejudice (Reconciliation Australia, 2016). In 2020, the documentary 'In my Blood It Runs' was released, showing the struggles and pains of being born as an indigenous Australian. It outlines how he struggles in school and loses focus. It shows many instances of racism being heavily outlined. I for one have never met an indigenous person however, a close friend of mine recently became good friends with one. They were at basketball tryouts and my friend could clearly see the Indigenous being left out. No one wanted to talk to the black boy.
