The Issue

1) Who is impacted? 18 Families living on Great House Road in Kinsale, Virginia, along with the Bailey Family's historical Great House and Cemetery, are directly affected. Renaming the road would require these families to update: 1) Utility and service accounts, 2) Legal and property documents, 3) Banking, insurance, subscriptions, and personal records, 4) GPS systems and delivery platforms, and 4) Emergency services data.

2) What is at stake? If the road name changes, these families face significant logistical challenges, including updating numerous records and systems. This process could take months, causing inconvenience and potential disruptions in services. Preserving the Great House Road name maintains the historical legacy and avoids these complications.

3) Why is now the time to act? Immediate action is crucial to prevent a logistical nightmare for residents and preserve the historical significance of Great House Road. The Great House's legacy, built in 1667 and tied to significant historical events of the War of 1812 and the Civil War, predates Stratford Hall's use of the Great House Road name. Renaming Stratford Hall's internal road instead would be simpler and less disruptive, affecting only one entity rather than an entire community.
