UPDATE: 1,000 SUPPORTERS AND COUNTING

When this effort started, the goal was simple: have a conversation about preserving the historic WBT AM transmitter site.

Today, I am incredibly grateful to say that we have reached 1,000 supporters.

Thank you to everyone who has signed the petition, shared it with others, told their stories, and taken the time to explain why this place matters. The response has meant more than I can say. The memories and stories shared by listeners, broadcasters, former employees, and members of the community have shown just how special this site is.

I’m also grateful to share that I have been invited to meet with representatives from Radio One and Beasley Media Group to discuss preservation opportunities for the WBT AM transmitter site.

This meeting does not guarantee a specific outcome, but it is an important opportunity to have the conversation this effort hoped to begin.

I also want to say this clearly: there are no villains in this story. Radio One, Beasley Media Group, and everyone involved have decisions to make, and I respect that. This effort has never been about stopping progress or interfering with anyone’s rights. It has always been about asking if there is a way to preserve a meaningful part of a place that played such an important role in Carolina broadcasting history.

Reaching 1,000 supporters is an incredible milestone, but this effort is not over.

We are now pressing forward toward our next goal of 1,500 supporters as we continue sharing why the historic WBT AM transmitter site matters.
