Preserve the Historic Name of the “Burr Trail Scenic Backway”

Preserve the Historic Name of the “Burr Trail Scenic Backway”
The Issue
Please take notice that the Garfield County Commission will hold a public hearing to consider the following:
The current County road connecting Boulder, Utah to Utah State Highway 276, formally known as the 'Burr Trail Scenic Backway' is proposed to be changed to the 'Donald J. Trump Presidential Burr Trail Backway'.
Boulder Town, with its proximity to the historical Burr Trail Rd, is concerned about any potential name change to this Scenic Backway. Share your voice on why it is important to you!
The historic heritage of the Burr Trail is personal to us and vital to our community. It embodies our shared past, our stories and the town's unique characteristics. The accomplishment that John Atlantic Burr and his fellow pioneers made, shaped the access and opened up opportunities for livestock & farming in a challenging environment. His descendants, the ones in Escalante/Boulder and afar, agree that this name adjustment would be a dishonor to his legacy. Ranchers ever since have benefited from the path he paved.
The natural beauty that is the “Burr Trail Scenic Backway” and its heritage means a great deal to the Boulder community and to its visitors.
Boulder Town, with its limited emergency services - no ambulance, one licensed EMT, no official local search and rescue - provides a testament to our self sufficiency. Lack of commercial services such as restrooms, cellular coverage or gas stations along this route further attest to the need to keep this road, and its historical narrative untouched and retain a name that reflects the conditions and services. We fear the proposed name change may negatively impact local tourism. These potential tourism boycotts could lead to a significant decrease in the town's revenue, leading to serious consequences on the local economy, the Garfield County Tax Revenue and expectations of visitors.
