Preserve the historic charm of The Old Mohawk
The Issue
I have had the privilege of working at The Old Mohawk for a year and a half now, and it has been an incredible journey. The relationships I've built with both the staff and patrons have transformed my life, creating a sense of community and belonging that I cherish deeply. For 49 years, The Old Mohawk has served as more than just a business; it’s a neighborhood staple, a place where people come to unwind, share stories, and make lasting connections. To see this treasured establishment undergo major renovations to become another version of Lola’s is truly heartbreaking.
The Old Mohawk is not just another bar; it is a place rich in history and tradition, with a charm that attracts regulars from all walks of life in the neighborhood. Changing its essence would mean erasing the personalities, the memories, and the unique spirit it has built over decades. The locals are passionate about preserving its authenticity, and we stand united in opposition to this plan of transformation that threatens our beloved gathering hub.
Turning The Old Mohawk into a 'Lola’s' goes beyond physical changes—it risks severing the deep emotional ties and the welcoming atmosphere that makes our spot iconic and irreplaceable. Keeping The Old Mohawk as it is respects the legacy it has maintained for nearly half a century. The staff is devastated, and we know our loyal patrons feel the same. We owe it to every person who has laughed, celebrated, and found solace within its walls to fight for its future.
Our ultimate goal is to convince the decision-makers to reconsider these plans and engage with the local community to find a path that respects our storied past while securing a future we can all be proud of. We invite supporters and friends of The Old Mohawk to stand with us in preserving its distinct character.
Please sign this petition to ensure The Old Mohawk remains the heart of our neighborhood, untouched by the impersonal changes that threaten to strip away its charm and spirit.
