Preserve the Film Class in Place of Standard English Courses

Preserve the Film Class in Place of Standard English Courses
The Issue
As a current student of Kinney High School who has experienced the benefits of our school's film class firsthand, I am rising to oppose the removal the film course and replacing it with traditional English. This class has not only enriched my educational experience but also those of hundreds of other students who have embarked on this unique learning journey. Miss Herring has provided us with this amazing class and has let us, use our creativity to enhance our learning at Kinney High School.
The film class provides us with a distinct yet effective approach to learning English. It has been proven that providing film studies into the curriculum can significantly improve students' understanding of complex literary elements, themes, and even culture related to the language. According to a study by the British Film Institute, 'Film can have a leading role in education across all subjects and help foster social, moral and cultural development.'
Moreover, it is worth knowing that unique and flexible learning, much like this film class, have a direct correlation with enhanced student engagement and learning. This course has given us the invaluable chance to acquire and master English skills. Yes, we understand that the school has concerns about students who have constantly ditched/skipped this class and have taken this class for granted, but it shouldn't affect the students who have put effort to keep this class.
Moving forward, we urge the school to reconsider its decision. Let us continue to amplify our voices for preserving the film class and let us ensure every student's right to a flexible learning environment.
We encourage you to sign this petition if you too believe in the profound impact innovative learning techniques can have.
