Preserve the Authentic Welsh Place-Names

Preserve the Authentic Welsh Place-Names
The Issue
As a proud native and fluent Welsh speaker, I take immense pride in my cultured heritage, a vital part of which are the original and authentic Welsh place-names. These names carry significant stories and are interwoven with the fabric of our past, painting vivid pictures of our cultural, historical, and linguistic heritage. Lately, I’ve noticed an alarming trend - we are "translating" these Welsh place-names into simpler, easier-to-pronounce versions. This is a direct assault on the preservation of our Welsh heritage and identity. According to a report by Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg, around 200 Welsh place-names have been lost and replaced with English ones each year. This transformation, while subtle, is steadily chipping away at our culture and sense of identity. This petition is not only about preserving our tradition and history but is also about standing up for our right to preserve our language, culture, and identity in the face of globalization. Let’s unite not only as proud Welshmen and Welshwomen but as those who value culture and heritage, to urge our local councils to stop changing Welsh place-names. Let us protect our heritage before it's too late. Please, sign this petition and make a stand for the recognition and preservation of Welsh culture, history, and identity. Change the place-names back to their orignal form!
