On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the Tamalpais Union High School District Board voted 3–2 to terminate the contracts for the Black Student Success Team at Tamalpais High School. This decision was made despite overwhelming support from students, parents, educators, and community members who attended the meeting to advocate for the continuation of these essential services.

The Black Student Success Team has been instrumental in providing mentorship, academic support, and a safe environment for Black students. Over the past year, the program has contributed to measurable improvements in student attendance, academic performance, and overall well-being.

During the board meeting, students and numerous stakeholders shared personal testimonies highlighting the positive impact of the program. The majority of the board cited budgetary concerns and perceived redundancy with existing staff roles as reasons for ending the contracts even though it is already included in the balanced budget submitted to them for approval and success has only happened when the new team came onboard.

This decision has sparked significant outrage within the community, with many viewing it as a step backward in the district's commitment to racial equity and inclusion. We are determined to find a path forward to support the Black students at Tam in the way they are asking.

Please continue to circulate this petition so that we can grow the support for these critical services. Be sure to use the feature allowing you to email it to the Trustees directly we have added all their emails to the site.
