Preserve Student Opportunities – Stop FISD’s CTSO Restrictions!

The Issue

Hello everyone! If you or your child is in any CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organizations- DECA, BPA, FCCLA, HOSA, FFA, etc.) and you could spare a small amount of time to sign, it would be greatly appreciated. This is essential in preserving student's opportunities for growth within FISD. Additional information can be found below:

Here is the situation:
FISD is changing the CTSO participation policy and capping CTSO competitors and are only allowing 100 members to compete at districts next year (for scale, one school sent 350 competitors to DECA district competition this year and they are sending 150 competitors to state this year). FISD is saying that their reasoning for making this change is due to budget concerns, but we have come up with a solution that would put CTSOs at a $0 cost for the district and they have ignored us completely. This policy will greatly impact YOUR STUDENT and the their CTSO chapter for various reasons:

1. All students will be at risk of being able to compete at district competition next year because chapters would have to have an audition/testing process to decide who gets to compete.
2. District competition would be extremely more competitive because there will be less competitors and therefore, less allotment spots for state.

Here’s what we need you to do to secure the future of all CTSOs in FISD:

1. Email both FISD administration and school board members CONSISTENTLY over the next weeks with your concerns and testimonials regarding the impact CTSOs have had on your student’s future. Link to board member information:

https://www.friscoisd.org/about/board-of-trustees/meet-the-board

2. Spread the word as much as possible.

This is the time to come together and make sure that FISD doesn’t limit student’s access to CTSOs in the future.
