PRESERVE POYNTON POOL

PRESERVE POYNTON POOL
The Issue
Petition organised by the Friends of Poynton Pool Community Constitution.
Poynton Park and Pool is a highly accessible and valuable community asset, enabling residents and people further afield to enjoy the nature it provides. To protect this for future generations, we request the following is adhered to by Cheshire East Council (CEC), as owners of the pool, if any work is needed to maintain the pool as part of the Reservoir Act 1975:
- CEC use an environmentally friendly solution, causing minimal disruption to the current ecosystem
- CEC find a solution that results in minimal loss of trees, given that CEC is unwilling to apply a Tree Preservation Order on the trees surrounding the pool
- the comparative cost for any work includes the Capital Asset Value for Amenity Trees (CAVAT) for all trees in the impacted area at Poynton Pool
This area must be protected as it provides highly important habitats for at least 66 species with protections, including at least 15 Redlist species. The Pool is designated as a Site of Biological importance; it is designated for its woodland, marginal/emergent/inundation vegetation and its ornithological interest. The pool has a good mix of habitat along it's banks supporting a wide variety of plant and tree species.
We must act now to protect this area, as CEC plan how to mitigate a 1:10000 year flood risk that was raised in the last reservoir inspection.
