Preserve El Corazon/Wyatt's/ El Chico at 110 W. Davis

The Issue

THE RESTAURANT IS REPORTEDLY CLOSING ON SUNDAY MAY 30.

110 W. Davis was built as Wyatt Food Store in 1940.  Later it became Wyatt's Cafeteria and then El Chico's in the 1950's.  The current owner has said the restaurant, El Corazon de Tejas, is open "indefinitely" but two definitive actions have been taken that would indicate otherwise.  The lot was replated by Orange Development Co. and a demo permit was pulled on April 17.  Orange Development builds CVS's.  This local landmark is at risk of being taken from the historic Davis cooridor at any time.

There are 3 things you can do.

1. Sign this petition

2. Contact your city councilperson

3. This item along with DISD headquarters on Ross Ave. and the Elbow Room are all on the agenda.  Attend May's Landmark Commission hearing and make your feelings known.  May 1st, 1:00 pm, Council Chambers, 1500 Marilla St. Don't be late.

The destruction of our culture for a nondescript, substandard, common CVS store isn't good for our community.
