Petition updatePreserve North Mandarin's Historic Tree Canopy: Say No to Sidewalk ConstructionJTA’s Own Document Raises Serious Questions About the Mandarin Road Sidewalk Project

We’ve been told there is “misinformation” and a lack of transparency surrounding the Mandarin Road sidewalk project opposition

So rather than debate opinions, I encourage everyone to review the official JTA presentation from the May 14, 2025 public meeting:

https://www.jtafla.com/project-initiatives/mandarin-pedestrian-safety-improvements/

Here’s what their own document confirms:

This is a 2.3-mile sidewalk project already at the 30% design stage
A federal Categorical Exclusion has already been granted, stating “no adverse effects” to historic or cultural resources
Yet the same document acknowledges:

Potential impacts to trees, drainage, utilities, and existing features
Drainage swales may be replaced with pipes
Property items in the right-of-way may be relocated or even demolished

And importantly:

Tree impacts have NOT been finalized

There is also no clear evidence in this presentation supporting claims that this project originated from a 2015 community request—despite that narrative being repeated.

You don’t have to take my word for any of this—read it yourself.

At a minimum, this raises serious and reasonable questions:

How was a “no adverse impact” determination made?
Why are impacts still being defined after that determination?
Why does the community continue to learn critical details only after design is underway?

This is exactly why over 3,200 people have signed the petition.

Transparency matters. Accuracy matters. And so does the future of Mandarin Road.
