Thank you all for helping us surpass 1,600 signatures—your continued support is making a real impact.

I want to keep everyone informed. This is not an initial records request. I’ve already been in communication with JTA on multiple requests, and now they’ve issued an estimate of $82.50 for more document retrieval, plus an additional 10–15 hours of staff time at $15/hour—which could result in hundreds of dollars in charges.

In a separate but related request, JTA is again estimating 10–15 hours of staff time, despite the fact that these are electronic records and should be easily searchable.

I’ve formally asked for a full accounting of all charges, including what specific records will be provided and how they calculated the time and cost. This request follows a prior experience where I paid $135 to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) and received a response that no records were available. That kind of outcome is unacceptable.

While Florida Statute 119 permits government agencies to charge for extensive public records requests, that doesn’t mean we should accept charges without knowing exactly what we’re paying for. Accountability is not optional when it comes to public access and taxpayer-funded information.

We are also engaging with elected officials and state agencies to bring greater oversight to this process, and I’ll share more as those conversations unfold.

Please continue to share this petition. We are being heard—and together we are demanding transparency, not obstruction.
