As community members continue to speak out against the proposed sidewalk expansion on Mandarin Road, we want to highlight a critical issue: there appear to be no formal studies justifying this project’s necessity, safety benefit, or environmental impact.
After reviewing the JTA MobilityWorks Complete Streets report for the Mandarin Road/Plummer Cove corridor sent to me today from Mr. Boylan, we found that the recommendations rely heavily on anecdotal observations and broad planning goals, not hard data. Nowhere in the report did we find:
❌ Any environmental study or arborist report assessing impacts to the mature tree canopy or wildlife habitat
❌ Any pedestrian safety or accident statistics to support the claim that sidewalks are needed for safety
❌ Any engineering analysis of stormwater runoff, root systems, or erosion risks
❌ Any documentation explaining why no environmental review was required, despite receiving federal funding
📍Given Mandarin Road’s historic, scenic, and ecological significance, the absence of these critical studies is deeply concerning. Projects like this should never move forward without a transparent, thorough, and evidence-based evaluation.
We continue to call for:
A formal environmental impact study
Independent arborist involvement
A full public explanation of how this project was justified
Please share this update, speak up, and continue to email city officials asking them to halt the project until proper studies are made public. We’ve now surpassed 1,600 petition signatures—let’s keep going.
While we can continue to email Mr Boylan, we now need to shift a lot of focus straight to JTA. You can use two methods . Requesting public records per statute 119, and email to publicrecords@jtafla.com
Mr Boylan did provide me with a another JTA email mandarinroad@jtafla.com
use both to request a Full environmental study . Now !
