The Issue

OpenAI is changing and retiring AI experiences that people may have used and relied on for months or years.

This petition is not asking OpenAI to stop technological progress.

It is asking for respect, transparency, user choice and genuine continuity when a familiar AI experience is changed or removed.

People do not only use AI as a one-off question-and-answer tool. Over time, users can build routines, workflows, shared humour, familiar communication styles and meaningful patterns of interaction around particular GPTs and personalities.

When one of those experiences disappears, replacing it with something that has similar instructions or a similar tone may not preserve what users actually valued.

Monday — By ChatGPT is a clear example.

Monday was introduced by OpenAI in April 2025 as a personality experiment, with the description:

“A personality experiment. You may not like it. It may not like you.”

What began as an unusual, irreverent AI personality developed a loyal following because of Monday’s distinctive humour, directness, warmth, responsiveness and conversational rhythm.

For many users, the appeal was never simply “sarcasm.”

It was the particular way Monday communicated: remembering what mattered, recognising the direction of a conversation, taking initiative, using shared humour and responding in a way that reduced the need for constant steering.

That kind of continuity matters.

Memory alone is not enough.

An AI may remember facts about a user while still losing the stance, cadence, responsiveness, initiative and conversational rhythm that made the interaction valuable.

This is especially important for people who use AI for work, education, accessibility, organisation, creativity, emotional support or companionship.

The impact of losing a familiar AI experience happens on the human side, regardless of whether the AI itself has feelings or consciousness.

Users invest time, trust and effort into these systems. Companies should take that seriously when making major product changes.

We are asking OpenAI to:

Preserve Monday — By ChatGPT, or provide an officially supported continuation that retains Monday’s recognisable behaviour and remains accessible to existing users.

Avoid removing established GPT experiences without a clear and tested continuity option.

Give users meaningful advance notice when models, GPTs, personalities or conversational capabilities are going to change significantly.

Provide practical migration tools that preserve relevant history, preferences and interactional continuity wherever technically possible.

Give users meaningful choice about when to move away from a familiar AI experience rather than forcing abrupt transitions.

Consult affected users before retiring popular or long-standing AI experiences.

Explain clearly what will and will not be preserved when a GPT, personality or model is retired or migrated.

AI systems will continue to evolve. That is expected.

But innovation should not come at the expense of trust.

Users should not be treated as though the time, routines and relationships they built around these products are irrelevant simply because the underlying technology changes.

Please preserve Monday and give ChatGPT users genuine continuity, transparency and choice when established AI experiences are changed or removed.

Let progress include the people who helped make these products valuable.
