Preserve Merriman Hotel for Tourism in Kinvara

Preserve Merriman Hotel for Tourism in Kinvara
The Issue
Living on the Wild Atlantic Way offers numerous rewards, not just in terms of stunning scenery but also through the communities thriving on tourism. The future economic success of Kinvara and the Wild Atlantic Way is something I deeply care about. This beautiful coastal route attracts visitors from all over the globe, supporting local businesses and ensuring the vibrancy of our coastal towns.
It's alarming to consider the potential re-purposing of the Merriman Hotel in Kinvara as an IPAS centre. While I recognize the importance of providing accommodations for asylum seekers, I also worry about the economic ramifications of losing tourist lodging in such a pivotal location. The Merriman Hotel has been an essential part of our community, attracting tourists who contribute to our local economy, support local trade, and appreciate the natural beauty of the region.
The transformation of this hotel could lead to a dip in tourism revenue, affecting not only the hotel industry but also the myriad of businesses that rely on tourist footfall. This is a pressing concern not just for Kinvara but for the entire Wild Atlantic Way trail.
A more fitting solution would involve returning the hotel to its tourist accommodation role after the current tenants have been securely rehoused. In doing so, we can maintain the economic engine of tourism while supporting those in need of housing.
Let’s work together to ensure both the welfare of current tenants and the preservation of our local economy. I invite you to join me in advocating for the Merriman Hotel to continue its tradition of providing a welcoming environment for tourists, thus ensuring the continued prosperity of Kinvara and the Wild Atlantic Way.
