Telehealth appointments via Medicare have ensured continued access to necessary healthcare for some of our nation's most vulnerable and at-need individuals. But at the heart of this lifeline is vital Medicare funding, which could be in jeopardy.

Current policy governing the expansion of Medicare telehealth is set to expire in March. Unless Congress intervenes, the benefits that many depend on could be severely compromised. This concern is not overblown, nor is it mere speculation. We urgently ask Congress to preserve Medicare funding for Telehealth, protecting the health and wellbeing of countless individuals who rely on these crucial appointments.

Consider the numbers: a recent study from the Department of Health and Human Services revealed that nearly half (43.5%) of all Medicare primary care visits were provided through Telehealth in April 2020, compared to less than 1% in February before the pandemic (Department of Health and Human Services, 2020). This impressive increase demonstrates the fundamental role that Telehealth plays in contemporary healthcare delivery. Should we allow it to diminish?
