The Issue

*** The City has signed up to keep the pool open through boys swim season. After that it will be community funded for the time being. Please donate at this link to keep it open. The money donated to change.org is managed by the organization so I cannot pay it forward.  Donate link below. ***

My daughter, along with hundreds of other students, passionately participates in high school swim programs across Yakima Valley. These programs have become an integral part of our community, providing not only athletic opportunities but also instilling discipline, teamwork, and personal growth in young individuals. However, the future of our esteemed high school swim program hangs in the balance due to the impending closure of Lions Pool.

Lions Pool has been our community’s cornerstone, offering a venue where skills are honed, friendships are forged, and dreams are realized. The facility’s closure would not just rob students of their platform to excel but also erase a cultural and social thread that binds our community together.

The Yakima Valley high school swim program not only enhances the physical and mental well-being of students but also contributes to the local economy. Hosting swim meets attracts families from surrounding areas, supporting local businesses and fostering a spirit of community pride.

One feasible solution to preserve Lions Pool is to engage with local government authorities, community leaders, and potential sponsors to secure the necessary funding for maintenance and operational costs. Partnering with local businesses and leveraging grant opportunities could also provide sustainable financial support.

Together, we can ensure that Lions Pool remains a beacon of athletic excellence and a pivotal part of our children’s education and upbringing in Yakima Valley.

Join us in our effort to keep the pool open and safeguard our children’s right to thrive and pursue their passions. Please sign this petition to convince the Yakima City Council and relevant stakeholders to save Lions Pool for generations to come.
