Hello Protector of Lincoln Park,

Friday morning, a peregrine falcon took a long bath in a puddle in the middle of the proposed project area, while varied thrush foraged for food in the surrounding redwood groves. It’s the kind of experience that inspires me throughout the day, and is a reminder of what is at stake.

Last week we updated you about our successes as a group, and also engaging an attorney. On Wednesday afternoon the attorney delivered a letter to Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR), the City Attorney, the Mayor, and others. The letter outlines multiple violations of laws, rules and regulations. You can find the letter in its entirety on our website, here:

This was an important step that would not have been possible without the support of this community. Thank you for your energy, volunteering, ideas, and generous donations. If you are one of the many people new to this group, I invite you to support this effort through our GoFundMe:

Please contact me directly at kersti.e.muul@gmail.com for opportunities for private donations, if you prefer.

Your voice and our all-volunteer team have been integral in getting construction paused. But we can’t relax yet; SPR continues to state they fully intend to proceed with the project.

More positive developments:

  1. I have been invited to be part of SPRs' study group, and we are in the preliminary stages of a scientific review of the impacts of noise and light.
  2. Many of you attended last week’s SPR virtual project listening session, clearly outweighing pro-pickleball in Lincoln Park. Your presence and questions made a difference.
  3. The Earth Club students at West Seattle High School invited me to give a presentation–they were an engaged and curious audience. We’re eager to involve them with scientific literature review, social media, and an educational walk in the park–let us know if you’d like to join! Details to follow in a future update.

Grateful for you,

Kersti E. Muul
