Preserve Lakeville's Trails, Wetlands, and Wildlife for Future Generations

The Issue

As a resident of Lakeville, MN, I have witnessed the joy and unity our local trails, wetlands and wildlife bring to our community. Our children race through these trails in winter; we marvel at the thriving wildlife in our woods; and during summer months, disc golf players of all ages gather here. This is not just land - it's a little part of Lakeville that brings us together.

However, this cherished piece of our community is under threat. Our trails used for multiple training/athletic events are at risk. The wetlands - legally protected areas not meant for construction - are being eyed by developers. The rich wildlife that calls these woods home faces displacement.

According to the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), access to natural areas such as ours contributes significantly to physical health while also promoting mental well-being through stress reduction. Furthermore, wetlands play an essential role in maintaining water quality by filtering pollutants (US Environmental Protection Agency). If we lose these spaces now, we lose them forever.

This petition isn't just about preserving nature; it's about safeguarding the health benefits they provide us with today and ensuring they continue for future generations. It's about prioritizing long-term community wellness over short-term financial gain.

Join me in urging local authorities to protect what remains of our trails, wetlands and wildlife habitats in Lakeville from development projects. Let’s ensure that future generations can enjoy the same experiences we have had with this land.

Please sign this petition today – let’s save a little part of Lakeville that brings so many people together!
