Preserve Kelly's Bake Shoppe and its Heritage Building from Demolition
The Issue
My children have developed a deep fondness for Kelly's Bake Shoppe, owing to its exceptionally kind service in providing allergen-friendly treats, considering their peanut, egg, and dairy allergies. This place is not just a business, it represents a safe haven to literally thousands of families like ours. We've been weekly regulars for well over 5 years now. The demolition of the heritage building is a concern for numerous regular visitors from all over Ontario, and also for those who travel as far as Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, NY, Pennsylvania, Buffalo, and even California to experience its unique offerings. Over the years I have seen and heard these conversations first hand.
Kelly's Bake Shoppe, rated as the number one tourist attraction in Burlington, brings thousands of visitors weekly. Apart from being acclaimed for its allergy-friendly offerings, it is also cherished for its incredibly kind and generous hospitality. The staff know our names. I don't know how they do it but they do. It is our 'home away from home' and my children simply adore the trip to Kelly's. Every week it is a 1 hour round trip for my 3 children, my husband and myself just to sit in a window with a coffee and a treat and feel the happiness well up inside of us. We stock up on our weekly treats and head back home. Its impressive 13-year long establishment at this location adds credibility and significance to its existence and customer relations.
Protecting this heritage building would mean preserving a historic piece of Burlington, along with safeguarding a valuable, allergy-friendly resource in our community. The building represents not only the legacy of Kelly's Bake Shoppe but also a part of the cultural heritage of our city. If demolition is necessary due to unavoidable circumstances, we must find solutions to relocate the building, thereby allowing Kelly's Bake Shoppe to continue its operation and serving its loyal customer base and keep the jobs of the almost 50 wonderful staff at Kelly's Bake shoppe.
Let's come together and voice our support to protect Kelly's Bake Shoppe and its heritage building. This petition calls on the local authorities to take into account the concerns of its community and consider alternate plans to allow Kelly's Bake Shoppe to still operate in downtown Burlington. Sign this petition to stand with us in saving this remarkable landmark from potential demolition.
