Save Hashima City Office building!

The Issue

The Hashima City Office building was completed in 1959,  designed by Junzo Sakakura, who studied under Le Corbusier. The Hashima City Office building won the Architectural Institute of Japan Award,  and was selected as one of DOCOMOMO Japan's top 100 buildings. Junzo Sakakura inherited the design of the slope and curved roof used by Le Corbusier. Hashima native Junzo Sakakura, designed the Hashima City Office building as to float above Local Hashima's Lotus Pond. He designed it so that the town could be overlooked from the watchtowers and balconies. The traditional method that Junzo Sakakura learned from his birthplace is expressed in the balconies on each floor, which serve to protect against rain and sunlight. The Hashima City Office building is environmental friendly and excels in and durability. The original building interior and exterior of the Hashima City Office building are preserved well, which retain high cultural property value. Although it is undesignated, the building has been very popular as a landmark of Hashima City for 64 year.
