Preserve Green Space in Pelham-Protect This Community Parcel
The Issue
This green space in Pelham may soon be lost.
We are asking Westchester County to preserve the parcel near the Pelham Post Office as protected green or park space—before it is permanently developed.
This parcel has long existed as open, undeveloped land and contributes to the natural character of this part of Pelham. Historically associated with the Hutchinson River Parkway corridor, it has remained a quiet, green presence in an otherwise dense and heavily trafficked area.
Today, it represents one of the few remaining opportunities to preserve open space in this neighborhood.
This section of Pelham already experiences:
- heavy traffic from nearby roads and the Post Office
- regular activity from nearby religious education and church uses
- limited access to meaningful green space
Preserving this parcel would provide a rare and valuable buffer supporting safety, livability, and quality of life for surrounding residents.
🌿 Historically open land
This space has long remained undeveloped and part of the area's green character
🏡 Limited neighborhood green space
This part of Pelham has very little accessible open space
🚫 Once developed, it’s gone forever
This is a permanent decision that cannot be reversed
We fully recognize the importance of supporting emergency services. However, we believe it is equally important to ensure that public land is used in a way that reflects long-term community benefit.
We respectfully urge Westchester County to designate this parcel as protected green or park space and preserve it for the community.
Let's protect this space for today's residents and future generations.
