Cook Field at Miami University of Ohio has been a beloved open space cherished for generations by students, faculty, and local community members alike. It is a place rich in history that offers a sanctuary for relaxation, recreational activities, study, and enjoyment of the natural environment. Unfortunately, plans have been unveiled to convert this green space into a basketball stadium, a change that would dramatically alter the landscape and the unique character of the university grounds. We understand the need for additional sports facilities, but believe that there are alternative solutions that don't involve sacrificing our cherished open space. Therefore, we urge the Commission on Preservation to value this essential aspect of Miami University's heritage and desist from proceeding with any plans to convert Cook Field into a basketball stadium.
