As a resident of Bathgate, I am deeply concerned about the proposed by-pass and urbanisation of fields and hills place plan. This  project threatens to destroy our beloved green areas and damage the local environment, including the stunning Bathgate Hills that many of us cherish and enjoy.

Growing up in this town, I have witnessed firsthand how important these green spaces are for our community. They provide a sanctuary for families, a place for children to play freely, and an escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life. The beauty of our natural surroundings is something we should be proud of and strive to protect.

If this huge urbanisation plan is allowed to proceed, it will not only eat into our precious green areas but also have detrimental effects on local businesses. Our town thrives on trade from both residents and visitors alike. We must encourage people to visit Bathgate rather than diverting them away with an unnecessary road development that will only lead to urban sprawl.

These are just a few of my concerns about this damaging proposal, let me present some relevant points:

1) Environmental Impact: The construction of new roads through our green spaces would result in irreversible damage to wildlife habitats and disrupt ecosystems that have flourished for generations.

2) Loss of Natural Beauty: Our picturesque landscapes are what make Bathgate unique. Replacing lush green fields with concrete structures would forever alter the character of our town.

3) Economic Consequences: A bypass could divert traffic away from local shops, leading to potential closures or loss of business opportunities for small enterprises that form the backbone of our town.

4) GP surgeries are already overloaded.  Even if new surgeries were built where would we get staff (both GP and nursing staff) - there is already a shortage of GPs and nurses.

By signing this petition, we can send a clear message to the proposer and decision-makers that we stand united in our opposition to this damaging by-pass and urbanisation  plan. Together, we can protect our green spaces, preserve the natural beauty of Bathgate and surrounding area and ensure a thriving future for our local businesses.
