Preserve Anita’s Kitchen Food Truck at Cascade Lodge in Bend, Oregon
The Issue
To Our Valued Community,
As the owners of Cascade Lodge in Bend, Oregon, we have built a life and legacy here. Our family has been part of this incredible community for nearly 30 years, and we have owned and maintained this motel for 26 years. It has become a significant part of both our lives and the fabric of Bend itself. We’ve invested millions into this property, but our commitment goes beyond financial investment—it’s deeply personal. This venue has been featured in our episodes and on our channels, becoming a character in its own right.
On our grounds, we proudly host Anita’s Kitchen Food Truck, a beloved staple in Bend’s food scene. Anita’s Kitchen has garnered praise for its outstanding Indian cuisine and has even been featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. However, we have recently been informed that in order for Anita’s Kitchen to continue operating, the city is requiring new fire permits. While we understand and fully support the need for safety regulations, the city has also imposed an additional requirement: over $200,000 in paving for the property to allow the food truck to stay. This requirement mandates that we pave all sides of the property, including areas that run through residential houses, complicating the creation of a sidewalk and further increasing the financial burden.
We fully acknowledge the importance of meeting fire safety standards and are committed to ensuring those are met. However, the paving requirement feels burdensome and unrealistic, especially considering our long history of service to this community.
This issue is not just about one food truck; it’s about preserving a cherished piece of Bend’s history and character. We respectfully request that the city reconsider the financial strain imposed by this requirement, taking into account the years of service and dedication we’ve provided to this community. We ask for your support in finding a more feasible solution that allows Anita’s Kitchen to continue serving its exceptional food at Cascade Lodge, a place that so many of us hold dear.
Please consider signing our petition to show your support, and join us in asking the city to reconsider these requirements. Together, we can help protect this unique part of the Bend spirit.
