Preserve and weatherize 1993 PTHS state champions photo
The Issue
Growing up in our small community, sports have always been more than just a game—they are a point of pride, a unifying force, and a source of timeless memories. In 1993, our Pontiac Township High School football team reached a pinnacle of success by becoming the 3A State Champions. I was honored to be part of that extraordinary team, experiencing camaraderie, perseverance, and the thrill of victory alongside my teammates.
For many alumni, current students, and residents of Pontiac that victory remains a cherished highlight—a testament to what hard work and community spirit can achieve. Yet, as time passes, so do opportunities to preserve the tangible artifacts of such significant achievements. The team photo from our championship is currently at risk of fading into obscurity, vulnerable to the elements and, as a result, much of what it represents might be forgotten.
We are calling on Pontiac township Highschool and the local school district to take immediate action to restore and weatherize the 1993 PTHS Football 3A State Champions Team Photo. By doing so, we can ensure that it stands as a long-lasting tribute to our community's rich history of athletic excellence. More than just a picture, it symbolizes the dreams and hard work of our town’s youth—a beacon that inspires future generations.
To achieve this, we propose that the restored photo be prominently displayed on the walkway leading to the stadium, where it can proudly greet our community and visitors alike. We can use environmentally friendly materials to preserve the photo, ensuring it's protected against weather, time, and the elements.
According to the American Institute for Conservation, artworks and historic photos can be preserved for centuries with the right materials and care. By investing in this preservation project, we not only honor the past but also engage current students, instilling a sense of history and community pride.
Join us in urging the school administration to take this essential step. Sign the petition to ensure the legacy and spirit of the 1993 champions are preserved for generations to come, keeping alive the history of dedication, teamwork, and community success.
