Preserve Access: Save pedestrian access to Anthem Country Club via Bel Meadows
The Issue
Dear Anthem Country Club,
We, the concerned ACC Sports Club Members who reside in the community, urgently appeal to you to reconsider the decision to block access to the Sports Club from Bel Meadows / Shade Valley Lane with the construction of a new fence starting Mid-July 2023.
This proposed action will limit access to the Sports Club for paying Members, reduce the sense of community we have today and create dangerous conditions for pedestrians walking to the club.
Key reasons why preserving access through Bel Meadows / Shade Valley Lane is of importance:
- Safety Concerns: Blocking the only existing permitted pedestrian access for Sports Club members from the community will create a safety concern. In future the only permitted way for Sports Club members to reach the club on foot, will be by walking on Club Side Drive. The road lacks both sidewalks and lighting at night. This is a danger to pedestrians, especially children, and to drivers.
- Quality of Life: Member Residents greatly value the convenience of reaching amenities such as the Sports Club through this route within our community. The proposed closure would significantly hinder this convenience factor, negatively impacting our overall quality of life as Member Residents in Anthem Country Club.
- Property Values: Accessibility to the Sports Club is a contributing factor to property values within Anthem Country Club HOA. By blocking off Shade Valley Lane, there is a risk of devaluing properties within the community, due to decreased convenience and accessibility. The owners of many properties within the community are also Sports Club members and they will be impacted.
- The proposal will result in unnecessary car trips for Member Residents. An enjoyable walk to the club, now becomes a car ride, putting more traffic on our streets and pollution in our air.
While we understand the concerns that have motivated this decision, we firmly believe that alternative solutions can be explored to address these issues without impeding pedestrian access. For example access could be restricted with an intercom to reception or by providing access fobs for Member Residents.
We kindly request Anthem Country Club to carefully consider the long-term implications of this decision and engage in open dialogue with Resident Members to find a mutually beneficial solution. By preserving pedestrian access, you will demonstrate your commitment to maintaining convenience and safety for Sports Club Member Residents.
Let us join forces to ensure that our voices are heard. We will be presenting this petition to the Sports Club and asking that they meet with concerned Member Residents to discuss the situation, before construction commences.
We urge Sports Club Members to sign this petition today, construction could start as early as next week and access could be lost forever.
