Government of NS. Stop Spraying our Lands. No Trees. No Water. No Wildlife. No People.

This is a petition to Premier Stephen McNeil, Minister of the Environment Iain Rankin, Minister of Natural Resources Margaret Miller, Minister of Health and Wellness, Randy Delorey and the Deputy Minister of the Department of Natural Resources, Julie Towers.

You have approved the spraying of glyphosate, a cancer-causing chemicals on our lands here in Nova Scotia. We don’t want this. We ask you please not allow these proposals to go forward.

Glyphosate has been banned in many countries and just recently in California. The WHO has proven it causes cancer. Health cancer says, unlikely to cause cancer. They will not commit to DOES NOT CAUSE CANCER. THEY WILL ONLY SAY UNLIKELY.

"With the high levels of cancer that we are seeing here in Nova Scotia — one of the highest per capita in Canada — why would we be allowing the spraying of a carcinogen? There is not a family in Nova Scotia who hasn’t been touched by cancer. Everyday more and more people in Nova Scotia are receiving the news, we are sorry but you have cancer. You need to stop hurting our earth. Let us act in the least risky manner since we are uncertain about the consequences. Let us clean up our lands for the generations to come. It needs to be done ASAP. We can wait no longer. There are other options. We ask you to get your brains together and use the safer options.

On August 1 the Nova Scotia Department of Environment approved an application to apply pesticides by Wilderness Environmental Services, a company specializing in vegetation management with offices in New York and Toronto.

Other approvals granted by the department have pertained to the spraying of glyphosate. It appears the spraying will occur along the railway corridor between Truro and Halifax, including urban areas in Truro, along the Bedford Highway and downtown Dartmouth.

Rural communities such as Windsor Junction, Hilden, Brookfield, Enfield and Stewiacke will also be affected.

There are also three more proposals besides this one. Here is the link to those proposals. http://novascotia.ca/nse/pesticide-spray/

If you do allow these proposals to go forward, we ask Premier Stephen McNeil, Minister of the Environment Iain Rankin, Minister of Natural Resources Margaret Miller, Minister of Health and Wellness, Randy Delorey and the Deputy Minister of the Department of Natural Resources, Julie Towers to allow these companies to spray this chemical on their properties before they spray it on our lands. This would prove that they truly believe it is healthy and will not cause cancer.
