There have been two floods 30% larger than the 2013 disaster.

The Tri-River project is an UPSTREAM solution that manages the Elbow River, Sheep River and Highwood River; it also contributes indirectly to the management of the Bow River. It is a multifunctional reservoir with the primary focus on flood mitigation and water management. The TRJR manages the source of the flooding, located in the mountains where 80% of the waters reaching our rivers originate. This is a solution for the majority of downstream communities at risk of spring flooding, as well as those facing water shortages later in the season.
