Return to Play - Rural Minor Hockey

Return to Play - Rural Minor Hockey

Dear Mr. Jason Kenney & Dr. Deena Hinshaw,
We are writing this letter to ask you for a Return to Play in Minor Hockey, specifically in the rural associations where case numbers are near zero. We feel strongly that the blanket restrictions currently in place across the province do not properly address our unique circumstances within our region. We are fortunate to have the ability to follow all guidelines and continue to contribute to flattening the curve of the COVID-19 spread in our province while still playing hockey.
Many of the players' families belong to the same community and school, a small region that we live and work in.
Understanding how Covid-19 spreads and the risks it presents, we believe the mental & physical health benefits received from playing a team sport are paramount in our children's lives. Hockey is a goal oriented environment that provides our kids with a purpose and connection outside of the home and school that is ESSENTIAL to our communities.
We would like to thank you for considering our unique situation and reviewing the protocols that are in place and ready to be implemented in order to Return to Play. Please consider reevaluating the restrictions and allow us to safely play the sport that we all know and love.
