Premier Eby - Invest in BC's Public Schools Now
The Issue
BC’s public schools are overcrowded, underfunded, and struggling to support students and staff. This petition calls on Premier David Eby and the BC government to urgently increase funding for school infrastructure, adjust budgets for inflation, and fully fund inclusive education and student supports. Every child deserves a safe, well-resourced, and inclusive place to learn—this is our call to action.
As concerned citizens, we are deeply worried about the lack of adequate resources that School Boards across BC desperately need to provide the quality education that every child deserves for upcoming school year.
BC's public school system is facing significant challenges due to years of underfunding. Without substantial capital funding, students will continue to suffer in environments that are not conducive to learning. School buildings are aging, many lacking the necessary resources to accommodate the growing number of students. In essence, we are failing our children by not providing them with safe, modern, and fully equipped learning spaces.
Funding must be adjusted for inflation and rising living costs. It is unacceptable that schools are expected to operate on budgets that do not reflect the current economic realities. Teachers and support staff deserve fair wages and adequate resources. Addressing inflation-related concerns is critical to ensuring that our education system remains sustainable and competitive.
The lack of fully funded inclusive education and wraparound support services is leaving many students, particularly those with support needs and disabilities, without the support they require to thrive, or even attend in some cases. Inclusive education means not only integrating students with diverse needs into regular classrooms but also providing the necessary support to ensure their success. This includes accessibility resources, specialized staffing, and comprehensive mental health services.
By prioritizing investing in our children, we can start to alleviate the pressures facing our education system. Committing to a excellence in Education is paramount in creating an environment where every student in British Columbia can grow to succeed.
Join us in calling on Premier David Eby and his Cabinet to make immediate changes to the Ministry of Education budget to reduce the cuts to programming for the next school year. The future of our children and the quality of their education depend on it. Please sign this petition to demand action from our leaders. Together, we can ensure that BC students receive the education and support they deserve.
