Save the Freo Warders' Cottages

The issue

We call on the State Government to recognise the historic significance of the Warders' Cottages, ensure there are resources to restore them, and put in place suitable plans for their future use.

The Fremantle Warders’ Cottages are some of the oldest and most historic buildings in Western Australia and of particular significance to the Fremantle community. They reflect the rich heritage of the Port City, and their presence in the heart of Fremantle should be a major attraction to residents and tourists alike.

For more than two years the Warders’ Cottages have stood empty after previous residents were evicted by the Department of Housing. Since then the Government has had no serious plan to maintain and restore the Warders’ Cottages, allowing them to deteriorate to a deplorable state of disrepair.
