The B.C. Government has struck a climate action committee to review and enhance the B.C. carbon tax. This committee is recommending an increase of $10 per tonne per annum, starting in 2018 and continuing each year until 2050. That would be an increase 12 times greater than today's $30 per tonne carbon tax, taking the tax to $350/tonne. Here's what this actually means. A normal home in cold rural B.C. pays approximately $300 per year of carbon tax on their natural gas bill, so multiply that by 12 times and you will be paying $3,600 per year carbon tax in 2050. THIS IS ONLY THE TAX!! Not the price of the actual gas. Currently we pay $.07/litre for gasoline and diesel fuel. Under this new recommended plan, we will be paying $.84/litre by 2050. THAT IS JUST THE TAX!! Not the price of the actual gas. Spectra energy pays over 70 million dollars per year carbon tax at the current $30 rate, so that means it will be 840 million dollars per year in 2050 and Tech Corp now pays 52 million dollars per year at the current rate which will turn into 624 million dollars in 2050. So PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE - sign this petition so that we do not price rural residents to death and kill all of our Industry! We all want a clean environment. B.C. is already the leader in the climate change agenda. So say NO to any further increases to protect your future, and the future of your families.
